Did the Vasectomy Episode make any sense?

It seemed a little late in the game to be discussing it. Jill I think was mid 40's. All their kids were teenagers. She tries to sell it as anytime anywhere (like that will ever happen) but why not get it sooner then? Were they going to try to have a baby with all their other kids grown up?
